Galaxy S III will be first Android smartphone to use Quick Tap

Orange and Barclaycard have announced that the first Android smartphone to feature the Quick Tap contactless payments service will be the Samsung Galaxy S III.

From September 5 new or upgrading Orange customers using a Samsung Galaxy S III in possession of a UK MasterCard or Visa card can now use Quick Tap.

They will be able to use the handset to make secure contactless payments of up to £20 by tapping their phone on the payment terminals at tills nationwide.

The payments are currently accepted in over 100,000 locations, including McDonalds, M&S, Co-op Food, Pret a Manger, EAT, M6 Toll Road, Little Chef, Wembley Arena, Subway and Wilkinson.

Customers can download the app to begin using the service, with those activating their accounts between September 5 and October 5 receiving £50 free to spend on their phone.

Barclaycard head of digital payments Tom Gregory said: "With the launch of Quick Tap payments on the Samsung Galaxy SIII, Barclaycard is bringing a safe and secure new way to pay to customers of all UK banks. Mobile payments are safe and have a full fraud guarantee and we've seen ever growing numbers of people using contactless to make quick and secure payments of up to £20."
